Why do we Bike MS? To show, through the thunderous roar of thousands across the U.S., that WE WILL CRUSH multiple sclerosis once and for all! So, whether you raise $10,000, $500 or $250, every dollar helps us fund cutting-edge research—and gives hope to our friends, loved-ones, relatives and those of us who live with MS—that we will cross the finish line.
But how do we get there? I was intrigued by what Paul DeBruler, of the Point B team, had to say about generating rivalry as a way to spur donations.

I help run a website about a soccer team, with a pretty large community of readers and a natural rival site of the team’s main rival.
So I’m making a friendly wager with the manager of that site: If I raise more money for my cause in the last two weeks of July than they raise for their chosen cause in the same time frame, I get to run their website for a day. If they raise more money than me, they get to run mine for a day. It’s a great way to drive interest and fundraising (e.g., “DON’T LET THEM TAKE OVER MY WEBSITE, GIVE TO BIKE MS TODAY”).
I like doing stuff like this, because it’s a rivalry you can take advantage of, but it’s all for fun and all the money goes to a good cause (or two).
So, think about your circle of friends or colleagues—can you find something fun to “bet” on like this that would raise money for Bike MS?
RUFF! Ask for a specific donation amount.
According to my pals over at DonorDrive, if you ask for a $20 donation, research shows you’re more likely to get $20 donations than $5 and $10 donations.
So, ask for $1 MILLION DOLLARS! Aha!!
Or maybe just $100,000.
